AYLF Makes its Mark at the UN Civil Society Conference - 2024
The AYLF is proud to have actively participated in the recently concluded UN Civil Society Conference (UNCSC) 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya.
This two-day event, held on May 9th and 10th, served as a crucial stepping stone towards the upcoming Summit of the Future in September 2024.
With the overarching theme of "delivering a better present and safeguarding the future," the UNCSC 2024 brought together diverse stakeholders from across the globe to discuss and contribute to the development of a "Pact for the Future." This pact will address five key areas: sustainable development and financing, international peace and security, science and technology, youth and future generations, and transforming global governance.
AYLF's focus was primarily on Chapter 4 of the Pact for the Future, which pertains to youth and future generations. Our representative actively engaged in discussions on the following thematic areas:
- Strengthening the meaningful engagement of young people
- Recognizing the underrepresentation of young people in formal political structures
- Creating a Global(African) Youth Investment platform
- Prioritizing positive youth development and well-being
- Establishing monitoring mechanisms to track progress
Beyond these thematic areas, AYLF also made significant contributions to the broader discussions on peacebuilding in Africa and the inclusion of underrepresented groups, such as people with disabilities and teenagers. We advocated for the use of inclusive language, such as "young people" instead of just "youth," to ensure that all young people feel represented and empowered.
We are committed to working collaboratively with other stakeholders to ensure that the Pact for the Future truly delivers a better present and safeguards the future for all generations.
The entire AYLF family extends our deepest gratitude to our Kenya National President for their outstanding representation of our organization at the recent UN Civil Society Conference 2024 in Nairobi.
